Risk Management and Youth Protection - 11/30/2017

Given the nature of our organization and its relationship to Service Leadership Programs and volunteer work done in the service of children, most Kiwanis members will be involved at some point in some type of project with youth. Therefore, in order to avoid an incident involving a youth and/or club member(s), Kiwanians need to hold themselves and our fellow members to the highest standards of conduct and awareness. To this end, every Kiwanian needs to be trained in risk management and youth protection.

Below are many resources that outline Kiwanis’ policies related to working with youth and provide training materials to implement a training at your club, division or district event. The...

Time For Giving - 11/29/2017

Christmas is a time for giving so why not consider some of the options the Minnesota-Dakota District Educational Foundation, Inc offers for scholarships. It is registered as a charitable non-profit corporation with the Secretaries of State in Minnesota, North and South Dakota. All gifts to the Foundation are tax-deductible.

$100 could buy a Vantine Life Fellowship recognizing a Kiwanian and or other members of their family. This could be a gift to a special member, a friend, spouse or a Club gift recognizing outstanding work or a gift for a retiring Club President, Lieutenant Governor or Fund Raising Chairperson. Think what $100 could do to help our youth continue furthering their education....

Last week Jeff Anderson and I were honored to be asked by Governor Dan to attend the dedication of a joint venture Scholastic Reading Oasis in Lead, South Dakota. It was placed in the Boys and Girls Club in Lead. Kiwanis was the energy behind placing this Oasis. They found a way to get this done even though they are a small club with limited resources. They asked the Optimists, Elks and another donor to be part of the joint venture. The children and the club are excited about this gift. The Elks Club even purchased tables for a room where the Oasis is located. Yes they have their own special room.

Why doesn’t your club look at this and other ways of getting a Reading Oasis...

Whether finishing your Eliminate pledges, starting your Kiwanis Children’s Fund contributions, or building funds to qualify for a grant, use K-Dollars as a fun tactic to boost your collection.
